The number of traffic casualties among cyclists is increasing, particularly among older people and those riding electric bicycles.
In response, independent road safety research institute SWOV is recruiting electric bike riders in The Hague to take part in a four-week study.
Daily journeys under observation
Participants will have their bicycles fitted with a set of cameras and sensors to record regular everyday trips.
Researchers want to understand how riders respond to traffic lights, crowded paths, other cyclists, and motorised traffic in real conditions.
SWOV researcher Reinier Jansen said the project aims to identify where journeys go smoothly and where difficult moments or near-misses happen.
Specific age groups needed
The institute is looking for residents of The Hague across two age brackets: young adults aged 18 to 24, and seniors aged 60 to 70.
Volunteers must ride an electric bike regularly for their normal journeys, such as commuting, school runs, or shopping.
After completing the four-week period, participants will receive a 50 euro VVV gift card.
