The Hague is bidding to host the new National Agency for Disruptive Innovation, known as NADI.
Richard de Mos, the deputy mayor for economy, international affairs, strategy and lobbying, says that as the safety capital of the Netherlands the city is the perfect place for the new organisation.
The agency is meant to move high-risk, high-potential innovations from development into practical use more quickly.
The themes named for it include digitalisation and AI, safety and resilience, health and biotechnology, and energy and climate technology.
Cooperation with organisations working on defence innovation is also foreseen.
The city wants to help the national government find a suitable site, and De Mos points to the International Zone and the Central Innovation District, where government, research, technology, international organisations and business sit close together.
He also lists the city’s cybersecurity cluster, the Hague Security Delta, the National Cyber Security Centre, Europol, Eurojust, ministries, international organisations, innovative companies and research institutions.
Parliament debated the creation of the agency on Tuesday 6 October.
BBB MP Henk Vermeer backs the city’s plans and is considering submitting a motion on the subject at a later date.
