Pool De Boei, on the Westerdonk care park in Monster, will close for good on 15 November 2026, its operator ‘s Heeren Loo has confirmed.
A recent inspection report found the pool no longer meets legal standards for quality and safety, and the organisation said it saw no responsible way to keep it open.
‘s Heeren Loo wanted to close the pool in 2023 over high costs and needed repairs, but kept it open after protests from clients and families.
It says it will now look at other activities and forms of exercise for clients.
Volunteers doubt the alternatives
Volunteer Marina Casteleijn called the closure a heavy blow and said staff had been working on a smaller butterfly pool elsewhere in the building, at a cost of around €50,000.
The board told them it still had to look at the plan, and Casteleijn has had no reply to the email she sent management earlier in October.
Mandy Blom, whose brother lives at Westerhonk, said the pool stopped being rented out to other groups in 2023, ending a source of income.
She said De Boetzelaer, a kilometre away, is no alternative for the 300 clients who swim there.
