Students on ROC Mondriaan‘s social care programme have made twelve litres of mushroom soup for people in vulnerable situations, and their entry is in the running for the title of Hague Christmas Soup 2026.
Two classes prepared the thick soup with spring onion and parsley at school, picking a filling recipe with wide appeal.
The Hague Soup Bus said it was pleasantly surprised by the entry, which came from social care students rather than the catering businesses that usually answer its call.
The project ties in with their studies, which teach them to support people who are not always well understood.
The Soup Bus asks Hague businesses, organisations and institutions to cook their best soup for its visitors during Soeptember and Soeptober, with staff and visitors judging the entries.
The organisation said the judges were seriously impressed, not least by the carefully cut fresh garnish, and rates the soup as a serious contender.
The winner will be announced on 11 November, Hague Soup Day, and the winning soup will be cooked again and served to visitors over Christmas.
Last year the title went to a cauliflower and curry soup from ROC Mondriaan’s International Hotel and Management School.
