Westland Florada, the garden centre on Noordweg, closed on 1 February 2025 after 58 years.

From Saturday 10 October its former owners are reopening the empty building as a one-off Christmas outlet.

The site was sold to the neighbouring Rijenhof sports centre, but the demolition permit has yet to come through, so the building has stood empty for months.

Ab and Danny van Oudheusden thought the empty building was a waste, and as Christmas had always been an important season for the garden centre, they decided to use it once more for the holidays.

Christmas shopping on Noordweg

Patricia Mollenman, who worked at Westland Florada for 35 years before retiring, got a call two weeks ago asking whether she fancied one more job, and she said yes.

The stock is all new, much of it leftover batches from trade fairs, and ranges from wreaths and lights to ornaments, trees and brightly coloured baubles.

Nothing can be reordered once a batch sells out, and card payment is not possible, so bring cash.

The outlet is then open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00, with free parking in front of the door.
