A bowling centre is to open in the building where the hospitality venue Dunes is closing, giving Kijkduin what the municipality calls its first real family leisure facility.
Hospitality entrepreneur René Bogaart, known for Pavarotti Kijkduin among other places, will build the new attraction.
Property owner Roeland Voerman and economic affairs alderman Richard de Mos, of Hart voor Den Haag, see it as an important step in the growth of Kijkduin as a lively family seaside resort.
Bogaart said he believes in the location and its potential, and that a bowling centre adds something the resort still lacks: somewhere families, friends and groups can do something together all year round.
Pressure on businesses
Voerman and De Mos said they understand that the long building works and the difficult start for the renewed Kijkduin have asked a great deal of local businesses.
Voerman called it painful when an entrepreneur has to stop after so much effort and investment, while adding that the area now has to look ahead.
De Mos said the city wants families to come all year round, not only for the beach and the cafes but also for events and activities, and that more plans are being worked on behind the scenes.
