Rijswijkseplein will fully reopen to traffic this weekend, nearly two weeks earlier than initially planned.
Both the road and the tram tracks will be back in service starting Saturday evening.
The square was originally scheduled to stay closed until Friday, 2 October. According to the municipality, several tasks were carried out simultaneously, which meant the final phase of the project was no longer needed.
Summer track and road renewals
Crews have been working on the busy square since last summer to replace the tram tracks. The road asphalt was also resurfaced during the project.
Local business owners had feared significant disruption, warning that their premises would become unreachable and that traffic diversions would bring the surrounding area to a standstill. Concerns had also been raised about prolonged noise pollution.
Despite earlier warnings that the square would become an impassable fortress, major chaos for public transport and general traffic ultimately failed to materialise, and overall disruption remained limited.
