The Mauritshuis in The Hague and the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid are launching an art exchange this autumn.
Each museum will loan the other 25 pieces from its collection, marking the first time the two institutions have traded their top works in this way.
Masterpieces arriving in The Hague
Visitors to the Mauritshuis will be able to view works by Jan van Eyck, Albrecht Dürer, El Greco, Bronzino, Antonello da Messina and Piero della Francesca.
The exhibition opens in Madrid on 9 October, followed by the opening in The Hague on 15 October.
Companion book on love
A publication titled ‘Thyssen-Bornemisza & Mauritshuis – Een liefdesverhaal tussen twee musea’ will be released in October by Waanders Uitgevers.
The book brings together 50 masterpieces from both collections alongside personal reflections written by Dutch and Spanish authors around the central theme of love.
