The province of Zuid-Holland has closed the Geestbrug between Rijswijk and Voorburg for major maintenance until Friday 27 November.
Crews are renewing the bridge control systems, software, paint layer, and the top road surface. These components have a lifespan of roughly 15 years, and the work is intended to keep the bridge safe and reduce future breakdowns.
Pedestrians and motor traffic
Pedestrians and cyclists can cross using a temporary movable footbridge installed next to the Geestbrug. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bicycles across.
Motorised traffic faces diversions via the A4 and A12. Bus line 23 continues to run its regular route across the bridge until Sunday 18 October, after which it will switch to a detour.
Waterway restrictions
The temporary footbridge opens twice daily for waterway traffic, from 10:00 to 10:30 and from 16:00 to 16:30. These openings allow passage for recreational boats and rowers.
From Monday 2 November, the footbridge will remain fixed in place. Recreational vessels and rowers will not be able to use the waterway route from that date until the end of the project.
