Sporttuin Duindorp is opening its gates to drop-in visitors again in the week of Monday 19 October, after a run of incidents forced the sports site to shut.

Those incidents made it impossible to keep visitors and staff safe enough.

The municipality of The Hague, Scheveningen police, municipal enforcement officers, youth and children’s workers and the primary schools De Tweemaster and De Meerpaal have drawn up new rules of conduct and agreed to work more closely.

Children and teenagers who ignore the rules can now be sent off the site faster.

Smaller incidents bring three warnings in a single day before a child is removed.

Anyone involved in something serious, such as a fight or badly disrespectful behaviour, must leave at once.

When a child is sent home, the school contacts the parents.

A third removal triggers a meeting with the parents, the child, the school’s management and one of the site’s managers.

From that point the municipality is informed as well and a file is started.

The organisations behind the agreement hope the site can go back to being somewhere children and young people from Duindorp and nearby can play sport and spend time together safely.
