Fireworks will light up the sky above Scheveningen again at New Year, according to the organisers of the Vreugdevuur Scheveningen bonfire.
They announced on Tuesday 20 October that a large fireworks show will once again be part of the celebrations at the end of the year.
The display is set to last a quarter of an hour and to stretch across a width of 250 metres.
Why the show can go ahead
The plan stands even though The Hague municipality has said it will not issue permits for fireworks shows anywhere in the city.
The organisers say the show is possible because of their partnership with Caffero, the professional company that has put on the display for years.
The exemption and the ban cover private fireworks only, so a professionally run show is not affected.
Putting on an event of that size costs money, and the organisers are asking residents to help pay for both the bonfire and the fireworks.
