Queen Máxima will attend Schuldenlab070‘s tenth anniversary in The Hague on Wednesday 28 October, where hundreds of representatives from government, business, community organisations and research institutions will look back on ten years of work against problem debt and make new agreements.
Set up in The Hague in 2016, the city’s social innovation lab has developed approaches including the Youth Perspective Fund, the Breakthrough Method and Collective Debt Settlement, now used in other municipalities too.
Máxima has been involved since 2018, and at her request the Hague approach was taken up nationally through SchuldenlabNL.
Schuldenlab070 now works with more than sixty partners and has widened its focus from debt to financial security.
CBS figures put the number of Dutch households with problem debt at more than 724,000 at the start of 2025.
Participants will discuss social debt collection, money worries at work, and young people and financial security, along with the part technology and artificial intelligence could play.
Máxima will join the discussions with Hague alderman Nur Icar, who holds the work and income portfolio.
The day ends with five promises from public and private partners, covering technology, financially healthy neighbourhoods, better access to services and support for young people.
