The Hague recorded 78 attacks with explosives in 2025, slightly more than 27% fewer than the 107 counted the year before.
The 2024 total was twice that of 2023 and included the December attack on the Tarwekamp, which killed six people.
Nationally the drop was just 1%, from 1,543 attacks or attempted attacks in 2024 to 1,525 in 2025.
Figures for 2026
Police counted 46 explosions in the first half of 2026 in the whole Hague police unit area, which also covers Delft, Leiden, Zoetermeer and Gouda, down from 66 a year earlier.
Mayor Jan van Zanen says the exact cause of the decline cannot be stated with certainty, but that tackling it is a high priority locally and nationally.
Closures and arrests
In 2025 the city temporarily closed seven homes and twenty businesses after attacks, and it also uses camera surveillance.
Police arrested 23 suspects over the 2025 attacks, 35% of them minors, who Van Zanen says are lured in by fast money.
A national team also works with postal and parcel firms to stop bombs and fireworks being sent through the post.
Van Zanen says the approach must be kept up, because every attack is one too many.
