The exhibition Thyssen-Bornemisza ❤️ Mauritshuis opened officially on Thursday 15 October in The Hague.

Until 17 January 2027, 25 masterpieces from Madrid are on show together in the city, for one time only.

The Mauritshuis put the show together with the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, where 25 paintings from the Dutch museum are hanging over the same period.

Love in all its forms

The selected paintings deal with love in all its forms, from longing and jealousy to self-love, smouldering romances and devotion to nature or to a saint.

No painting swap on this scale has ever been carried out by two museums at the same time.

To mark the exchange, each museum asked ten authors to write a story on the theme of love about one of the selected paintings.

Book and opening night

The twenty stories have been collected in a new book published by Waanders Uitgevers, which is on sale at the museum and in bookshops.

At the opening in the Mauritshuis, the Ana-Carmen Balestra Trio performed and there were creative workshops.

Invited guests were the first to see the new exhibition.
