The Hague film brings residents together

At Amare, a short film brings ten groups of residents together for questions that move from everyday interests to personal experiences. The campaign aims to address polarisation while showing what people share.

A cardiologist, an ADO supporter, a civil servant and members of the Schevenings Vrouwenvisserskoor stood side by side during the filming of Wij zijn Den Haag.

The short film is part of a new campaign and brings ten groups from the city together at Amare.

The questions started simply, such as who likes swimming in the sea, then became more personal, about saving a life, loneliness and loss.

People who recognised a question as their own walked to the middle of the room, forming new groups across the usual dividing lines.

Cardiologist Abdelilah el Barzouhi, born and raised in The Hague, said people from different backgrounds often deal with the same things.

Dorien Dolleman, who joined through PIP, said the easier opening questions made the deeper ones simple to answer.

Her main message is that people should be curious about one another.

Wij zijn Den Haag comes from residents, social organisations and funds who want to draw attention to growing harshness and polarisation.

Inspired by the Danish film All That We Share, it aims to show what lies behind differences rather than erase them.

It premiered on Monday 5 October and is being shared online, including on YouTube.
