The Stadswacht is one of three initiatives from Laak selected for Nieuw70, a campaign highlighting projects residents are proud of.
The Hague municipality chose 24 initiatives, three from each district, based on their originality and impact.
Initiator Michiel Corver saw potential in a building that was in poor condition. The space, he said, could support makers and creative work.
Corver describes The Stadswacht as a place for culture, craft, education and personal development, where people with different skills can work together.
A space for culture and connection
The project’s impact reaches beyond the people who have studios there.
Events and activities bring visitors and organisations to the site, while cultural and community groups use its spaces and form new connections.
Corver is also working with organisations on suitable premises and with The Hague Street Art on murals across the city, aiming to make art in public spaces more accessible.
Laak ambassador Dilan Cesim said she was proud of the district’s willingness to work together.
She hopes more residents will have the chance to share their talents and ideas.
