A new documentary explores the 2020 surfing disaster at Scheveningen that claimed the lives of five young men.
The film, titled Schuim, features accounts from relatives and survivors speaking on camera for the first time.
Five surfers died on 11 May 2020 after encountering a sudden layer of thick sea foam near the northern harbour pier.
One man survived after being pulled out, while several others managed to exit the water on their own.
Director Bart Grimbergen spent two years researching the project alongside producer Hans Mors.
The storyline centres on victim Sander Dikken, whose sister Susanne participated to help document the process of grief.
Cinema release and television broadcast
The film opens with the events of that afternoon and moves into the years of bereavement that followed.
Survivor Ruurd Mosterd and fellow surfer Sebastiaan, who raised the alarm when conditions turned dangerous, also share their experiences.
Schuim premieres on 10 October at Filmhuis Den Haag and will run in several other local cinemas from that date.
Regional broadcaster TV West plans to air the documentary early next year, with national television screenings also under consideration.
