The Ooievaarsrun returns on Saturday 19 September, bringing a large convoy of honking trucks, fire engines, and police vehicles through The Hague and Westland.
The annual event gives people with disabilities the chance to ride along in the vehicles, accompanied by motorcycle escorts and traffic marshals.
Four departures across the day
The procession consists of four separate runs departing from Kerketuinenweg at 10.00, 11.30, 13.00, and 14.30.
Vehicles will travel through Westland via Poeldijk, Kwintsheul, Naaldwijk, and ‘s-Gravenzande before returning to The Hague along the coast toward Scheveningen.
Drivers and residents should expect temporary road closures along the route, which passes Meppelweg, Kijkduinsestraat, Sportlaan, and Westduinweg.
Finish at the Scheveningen fish auction
The convoy ends at the Visafslag in Scheveningen, where the first vehicles are expected around 12.00 and the final run arrives around 16.15.
An open festival at the site includes face painting, a bouncy castle, and games on the Simonis Spelletjesplein, alongside live music and dance performances.
The lineup features CLE Dancestudio, Brass Band Dream Team, feestkapel De Blaasknarren, and several Dutch singers, with dj Joop providing music throughout the day.
Running since 1987
Initiator Willem Vos founded the Ooievaarsrun in early 1987, organizing the first edition on 12 September that year with around fifty trucks split into three groups.
The event expanded to four runs in 2006 and continues as an annual gathering for drivers, volunteers, and spectators across the region.
