A driver stopped during an enforcement sweep in Scheveningen and Duindorp paid a €100,000 outstanding motor vehicle tax bill immediately on the spot last Friday.
The national tax authority inspected 38 vehicles during the operation, collecting more than €190,000 in unpaid vehicle taxes overall.
Municipal tax officials also seized twelve vehicles for €78,000 in outstanding debts and fitted nine cars with wheel clamps over unpaid parking tickets. One car was towed away, while two motorists settled debts totalling more than €21,000 on site.
Traffic stops and transit fines
Police ran a large checkpoint on Dr. Lelykade, stopping 100 vehicles and issuing 49 fines for offences including driving without a licence, failing to show ID, not wearing a seatbelt and phone use while driving.
A sniffer dog discovered a packet of white powder in one vehicle, leading to the driver’s arrest, while another person was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
Officers also tested 28 fatbikes on a roller bench following local complaints about speeding, seizing speed limiters from two bikes. Bike-mounted officers issued nine fines to people using phones while cycling, and seven scooter riders were ticketed for using the cycle path.
Inspectors also boarded 58 trams near the Kurhaus and Duinstraat stops, issuing €76 fines to 55 passengers travelling without a valid ticket. Parking teams scanned 6,000 vehicles, generating 30 penalty charges, alongside fines for pavement parking and petrol cars parked in electric charging bays.
Housing and business inspections
The enforcement team inspected several massage salons along the coast, identifying possible forced labour or prostitution and detaining one undocumented worker.
Hospitality inspections found an employee who tried to flee, suspected benefit fraud among staff, and one business selling spirits without an alcohol licence.
Police teams responsible for executing outstanding warrants arrested two people, including one person facing an open prison sentence for serious traffic offences.
Housing inspectors checked properties for unpermitted alterations, discovering one home with an illegal conversion and structural subsidence caused by the removal of a rear facade.
At three Hof Wonen social housing addresses, tenants were found not living in the properties and subletting them illegally to others.
